Project: Sub-Floor Ventilation in Beacon HIll
After the run of heavy rain we’ve had across Sydney recently, we got a call from a local family in Beacon Hill who were worried about a damp, musty smell inside their home. They’d noticed patches of mould starting to form on their skirting boards and were constantly running dehumidifiers just to keep the place feeling liveable.
Like many homes in the Northern Beaches, their house sits on a raised timber floor with a sub-floor cavity underneath. After inspecting the property, it became clear that moisture was getting trapped in the sub-floor soil and without proper airflow, that moisture was seeping upwards into the house and creating mould issues.
Our Solution
We designed and installed a sub-floor ventilation system tailored to their home. By installing discreet ventilation fans and ducting, we were able to circulate fresh, dry air through the sub-floor and push out the damp, stagnant air that had been causing the problem. We put the ventilation on a smart switch and timer so that it could be controlled from the homeowners phone.
This continuous airflow keeps the space dry, preventing moisture build-up and removing the source of the mould issue before it has a chance to spread into the living areas.

Within just a week or two, the difference was noticeable. The musty smell was gone, the air inside felt fresher, and the family finally had peace of mind knowing they’d solved the issue at its source, rather than just covering up the symptoms.
